How to type it

Right middle finger; hold Shift for the capital. Introduced in Lesson 2: Home row: d and k.

Common uses

• K sounds like c in cat and is silent before n in words like knee.
• K is often short for thousand, as in 50K.

Less common uses

• K is the symbol for kelvin, the SI unit of temperature.
• K is the chemical symbol for potassium, from the Latin kalium.
• In English chess notation, K stands for king.
