Underscore
Also called low line or underbar.
How to type it
Right pinky with Shift.
Common uses
- Underscores stand in for spaces in file names, user names, and web addresses, where spaces are awkward or not allowed.
- On forms, a row of underscores marks a blank to be filled in.
Less common uses
- Programmers write multi-word names with underscores, as in snake_case.
- In Python, names with double underscores on each side, such as __init__, have special meaning.
- On a typewriter, the underscore was used to underline a word by backspacing and typing over it.
